A comprehensive investigation by Housing Rights Initiative has uncovered rampant source of income discrimination in Westchester County. A study by the Urban Institute found that source of income discrimination, specifically against voucher holders, is a pervasive problem across the country.
New York State law prohibits brokers and landlords from discriminating against tenants for their lawful source of income, including Housing Choice Vouchers (“Section 8”).
